Dallas Black Family Therapy
It can be challenging to seek mental health when there are so many factors that go into finding a therapist and starting therapy. It can be equally challenging for black individuals or couples who are seeking mental health because finding a clinician of color can be a challenge. That is why Aspen Counseling and Wellness wanted to create this resource to help you jump start your therapeutic journey because it is important to prioritize your mental health and seek out therapy to support your overall well-being. Whether you are a Black woman looking for a therapist, a Black man seeking counseling, or a Black couple in need of support, there are therapists and counselors available who understand and are sensitive to the specific needs of the Black community.
There are many barriers that can prevent Black individuals and couples in Dallas or Texas from seeking therapy or counseling. One common barrier is cost - therapy can be expensive, and many people may not have the financial resources to afford it. Insurance coverage for mental health care can also be limited, making it difficult for some to access therapy. Another barrier is the lack of Black therapists or counselors, which can make it harder for Black people to find a provider with whom they feel comfortable and understood. Additionally, the stigma surrounding mental health care can prevent some people from seeking therapy, even if they know it could be beneficial for them. It is important to recognize and address these barriers in order to ensure that everyone has access to the mental health care they need and deserve.

What is telemental health ?Simply put, it is counseling using video chat. Unlike traditional video chat, the video platform used for telemental health is HIPAA compliant and secure. Telemental health is a way to receive the counseling that you desire, in the comforts of your own home or office. The only difference between telemental health and face-to-face is the location.
-
Is online therapy right for me?Absolutely! Telemental health is great for people who may be busy or their daily lives make it more challenging to meet a counselor in the office. A traditional session is 45-50 mins, which can occur during a lunch break without the headache of traffic or rushing back. Simply put, it is a convenient way to seek the help and guidance you desire. You can always do a 15 min consultation at no cost to see if telemental health is right for you. At this moment, I do not accept telemental health clients who have a personality disorder or are actively suicidal. However, there are some counselors who specialize in providing therapy for clients who may be experiencing the aforementioned.
-
How does telemental health work?Once your appointment is confirmed, you will receive an email providing you with next steps. Benefits Of Working With A Black Therapist
Therapy can be an incredibly powerful tool for African Americans. It can provide black and African Americans with the opportunity to reflect on the unique challenges they face and make meaningful changes in their lives. Blacks and African Americans have been historically oppressed and marginalized in the U.S., facing unique and often difficult experiences in their day-to-day lives. Therapy can be a safe, non-judgmental space for African Americans to process these experiences and create a healthier, more fulfilling life.
One way therapy can help Blacks and African Americans is by providing a safe space to process trauma. African Americans are more likely to experience trauma due to the history of racism and oppression they have faced. This trauma can manifest in many ways, such as persistent feelings of fear, depression, or anger. It is important to note that not all Black and African Americans have experienced trauma, but those who have often need a safe space to process it. Therapy can provide this space and work with African Americans to develop healthy coping strategies.
Heal Your Trauma With A Black Counselor
Therapy can also be an important tool for African Americans to explore their identity. Black Americans are often faced with the challenge of navigating both their African American identity and the dominant culture in which they live. This can be a difficult process for many. A Black or African American Therapist can offer a space for Black Americans to explore their identity and develop a sense of self-acceptance and confidence.
Counseling can also be a powerful tool for African Americans to address the issue of racism. Black and African Americans face racism and discrimination in many forms, from subtle microaggressions to more overt forms of racism. Therapy can provide a space to explore these issues and develop skills to confront racism in their lives. This can be especially important for Black and African Americans who have experienced racism in the workplace or in their communities.
